Overview & History

Govt Medical College, Thrissur started in the year 1982. Department of Ophthalmology started functioning right from the beginning. PG course with two MS seats was started in the year 2007 . Seats for MBBS and MS Ophthalmology got increased over the years with present status of annual intake of 175 MBBS and Seven(7) MS ophthalmology candidates.Department has a functional eye bank.Speciality clinics for Retina, Glaucoma, Squint, Cornea, Low vision are functioning since 10 years. Cerebral Visual Impairment Clinic was recently started in association with Department of Pediatrics.

Paramedical course - Diploma in in Ophthalmic Assistance -with an annual intake of 25 students is being conducted by the department since 2000

•  Granted renewal of recognition for a further period of five years by the NMC, following the   post graduate inspection (MD Pharmacology) conducted on 22-02-23
